About Us

ABOUT US

Clarity Investigations & Consulting focuses on conducting high quality investigations regarding allegations of harassment, discrimination, and other workplace misconduct claims. These are conducted in either a neutral independent role as fact-finder or as legal counsel, depending on the circumstances.

We are experienced investigators who thoroughly and impartially examine facts, conduct interviews with sensitivity and cultural awareness, and make well-supported determinations. We have conducted a multitude of investigations for both private and public entities, often involving complex relationships, power dynamics, and claims. We also frequently provide advice to employers on everyday workplace management and legal issues.

We realize that employment law requires a conscientious touch, a listening ear, and a nose for the facts. The attorneys at Clarity Investigations have both the experience and background to help. We bring our clients a practical understanding of the interplay between employment law, litigation, and human resource management.

MORE about who we are

Beth Van Moppes

Beth’s practice focus is workplace investigations for both public and private sector employers. In this role, Beth partners with clients to ensure an impartial, timely and thorough investigation, frequently involving complex claims and fact patterns, as well as sensitive issues and environments. In the course of her career, Beth has conducted more than 300 investigations of complaints and circumstances as varied and diverse as the individuals involved.

Beth’s decades of practice experience have included investigations into allegations of discrimination, hostile work environment, sexual misconduct, assault and harassment, retaliation, ethics violations, wrongful termination, and improper governmental actions. She has conducted investigations with employees, witnesses, and parties from a multitude of occupations and employment, including executive leadership, elected and appointed governmental officials, correctional officers, law enforcement, tribal management and employees, students, tenured faculty and staff, and human resources professionals.

Beth holds an Association of Workplace Investigators Certificate, accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). She also served for almost a decade as the Seattle Circle Convener for AWI, where she was responsible for the leadership of the local professional membership association.

Beth frequently speaks to client groups, various national and local organizations, and special interest groups, on topics related to human resources and workplace management, including training on the critical skills managers need for performance management, professionalism, diversity, and inclusion awareness. She creates and facilitates seminars that provide management with practical tools for a workplace’s daily operations while highlighting the vital importance of self‑awareness to a successful manager. Beth also works hard to keep attendees awake through her entire presentation.

Additionally, Beth guides clients in everyday workplace issues, such as ADA accommodations, discrimination and retaliation prevention, wage and hour administration, and employee relations, with a focus on the preventative measures available to employers. She provides comprehensive workplace law advice and strategic human resources consultation to public and private employers with timely practical guidance. With every unique situation, Beth remains focused on balancing both solutions and awareness of the client’s time and financial investment in those solutions.

To both her work as an investigator and legal counsel, Beth brings her decades of experience with both federal and state employment law litigation in Washington and other PNW states. Prior to founding Clarity with Tara, Beth practiced more than 20 years at two local law firms and in the Seattle offices of two nationally renowned law firms. She also worked nearly a decade as a solo practitioner and spent two rewarding years working for the Labor & Personnel Division of the Washington State Attorney General’s Office. Beth graduated from Seattle University School of Law and earned her B.A. at Scripps College in Claremont, California. She is an alumna, former Board of Trustees member, and a former Alumni Board member of University Preparatory Academy in Seattle.

When Beth isn’t working, she is trying to drink enough caffeine to keep up with her teenage daughter, their dog and two cats, Mariners baseball and the Seattle Seahawks.

Tara Parker

Tara is devoted to conducting thorough, timely, and impartial workplace investigations. She has broad experience investigating circumstances with multiple claims, complex facts, and sensitive issues, for both public and private sector employers. In every investigation, Tara employs her 20+ years of knowledge and experience to earn the trust of all participants – employers and employees, complainants, respondents and witnesses – in order to discern how specific conflicts arose, individuals’ roles in those conflicts, and how applicable workplace rules and policies apply to each unique set of facts.

Her investigations have involved a wide variety of parties and witnesses, including extensive experience working with elected officials, executive and “C-suite” leadership, human resources professionals, law enforcement, and unionized employees.

Tara has completed comprehensive investigation training, including the Association of Workplace Investigators Training Institute (earning the AWI-CH designation), and coursework in trauma-based interviewing, anti-bias training, culturally-sensitive communications, and conflict resolution.  Her investigative skills are further informed by the education and experience she gained as a social worker before becoming a lawyer.

Prior to founding the Clarity firm, Tara practiced civil litigation, clerked for four Washington Court of Appeals judges, and worked as a trial consultant on dozens of complex, high-stakes, litigation matters. This broad range of experience gives her a unique perspective on how complex interpersonal dynamics impact individuals, create risk for employers, how these matters can play out in litigation, and how best to mitigate those risks.
